Sweater Dress Upcycle

So, as I said in this post, I have a lot of old shirts to upcycle.  During E's bath this evening I hand sewed this little number:

It was soooooo EASY, too.  Here's what it looked like before I broke out the scissors:

Then, I cut it off right below the arm pits:

Next I flipped it over so that the bottom of the old sweater would make the top of the new dress:

I didn't take pictures of this part because I was just kind of going with the flow, but I cut off the neckline and cut it in half.  Then I hand stitched (only because I was confined to the bathroom for Emma's bath otherwise I would have used the sewing machine) the straps to the back, sewed on a couple of cute buttons, and cut the buttonholes.
Tah-Dah:

Ring around the Rosies!

Naptime craft today was:
 Hair Flowers!

Emma was pretty excited when she saw the flowers.  This is the one she chose for her hair.  I had made this particular one for Heidi, since she loves yellow, but since she isn't here right now Emma can wear it for now.

Then I heard, "MORE!" Soooooo:

"And MORE!":

Until every hair clip I made was in her hair!
Man, that girl loves her hair accessories!

MMMOOOOMMMMMMYYY CCCCCOOOOFFFFFFFEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, its pronounced how it sounds (mommy coffee) but shouted loud and long by a two year old.
This is what I hear every morning I don't have to work.  Not that I'm complaining, because I'd rather listen to my child shouting at me than be at work.  But the point of this entry is not how cute Emma sounds when she shouts at me, it is actually about what a naughty mommy I am.
Yes, that is a Mommy sized coffee and an Emma sized coffee.

Now, in my defense, this was a morning before she had gymnastics class and she is usually really cranky.  She is a little like her father (and maybe her mother) and does not really enjoy waking up in the morning.  She usually asks for a sip of my coffee, but then doesn't want it because she knows its too hot.
Put Mommy coffee in a tea cup, and VOILA!  YUMMY!!!!!
"MMMMMM, Nummy"

Coffee = Happy Emma :)

What do you make for boys!?

Thankfully, all you have to do to answer that question is mosey on over to Made by Rae or Made where they are having Celebrate the Boy month.
However, I found the inspiration for Jackson's gift here.  A taggie football! It was so cute, I just had to do it.  So, I kind of remembered her tutorial (photogenic memory, its a gift and a curse) and just went with it, but my first design looked more like a round ball then a foot ball.  SOOOO, on to take two.  This time I figured out that I would have to make my lens (the eye shape that a football is pieced together with) thinner and longer.  Done and Done..... And have come up with this:

I really want to puke, yet jump with joy.  Weird, huh?  Let me explain.  I am a die hard Michigan fan.  Emily's husband is a die hard Ohio state fan.  To even bring red and white together on this level makes me sick when I think about it, let alone actually doing it! However, I sucked it up, for that sweet little one week old and I hope they enjoy it........

New Baby....

Not mine, Emily's! My BFF has been blessed with a little bundle of joy wrapped in blue.  Jackson Ross, made his debut to the world last Thursday, February 10th.  And not a day late, I might add.  In fact, that little stinker was so excited to meet Mommy and Daddy, that he decided to poke his little head out 5 weeks early! Yes that is right, 5 WEEKS EARLY!  He is truly a miracle.  Not a day spent in NICU, he is surprising healthy.  A modest 5 lbs 3 oz at birth, yet 18 inches long.  He is gonna be tall and thin, just like his grandpa was.  Congratulations to the best friend a girl could ask for.... oh and congrats to your hubby, too :)

Upcycled Dress

So last week I 'jacked a bunch of my sister's shirts that she was planning on selling in our garage sale this summer.  Seriously, she has some uber cute stuff! Check them out:

Earlier this week I upcycled this shirt:

into this:

And today I had every intention of doing a quick upcycle with another shirt during Emma's nap.  Well, pretty much it took me all afternoon and evening because I kept messing up and needing to rip out seams.  But here is how it turned out:
Before
After

I think it turned out pretty good.  And more importantly, it got Emma approval (I'm assuming because she is refusing to take it off).  What do you think?

Sick of being sick.......

Well, sort of.  I think its a little to early to be so dramatic.  In fact, just last week, I was thinking how thankful I am to have been pretty healthy this flu season.  But, since both the hubby and I were both a bit under the weather, the in-laws captured the little one for the day.  This was extra special for Emma, because she got Grandma Sally and Papa Dave all to herself.  And, boy oh boy, did they ever spoil her.  She came home with a belly full of Outback Steakhouse, a new dress, 3 new pair of mittens, and (drumroll please) new BOOTS!!! Perhaps I should have prefaced by explaining Emma's love of shoes (takes after her Momma).  This child has about one pair of shoes per outfit (ok, not really but close enough!) and completely adores every single shoe in her collection.  So, today, she added a new genre: cowboy style.... er, cow-girl!  Typically, it irritates me when Emma is given something that she already has (I mean why does anyone need more than one of anything), such as a second pair of brown boots.  But these are so stinkin' cute and cowgirl-ish I don't think I have the heart to exchange them.  So, I am going to just have to make her some cowgirl gear to go with them...... EEEEKKKK Project!!!! Mommabear is excited, so stay tuned.
